Dr Mikhaila Lazanyi
MELBOURNE OBSTETRICIAN & GYNAECOLOGIST
MBBS (Hons). MPHTM. FRANZCOG. IFEPAG
Dr Mikhaila Lazanyi is an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist who is passionate about providing personalised, evidence-based, individualised and empowering care.
Originally from Ballarat, I undertook medical training at Monash University, and specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology at the Royal Women’s Hospital. I have undertaken additional training in high-risk pregnancy, ultrasound, laparoscopic surgery, and paediatric and adolescent gynaecology.
I believe in enhancing outcomes through optimising education. In recent years, I have undertaken clinical education and clinical leadership roles within two of the largest tertiary adult and paediatric services across Australia. I have been instrumental in improving clinical practice guidelines for clinicians and colleagues, and also ensuring access to up to date and reliable education resources for patients and carers.
I currently have clinical roles at the Royal Women’s Hospital, Royal Children’s Hospital and Mercy Hospital for Women. In recent years, I have held clinical lead positions for the early pregnancy advisory service and prevention of preterm birth clinic, and I was the clinical lead for my hospital’s contribution to the National Preterm Birth Prevention Collaborative. I am an honorary fellow at the University of Melbourne, and a training supervisor for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG).
To broaden my skills and knowledge beyond hospital walls, I completed a Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, and I have also worked at the United Nations’ World Health Organisation in Geneva on improving maternal and infant outcomes.
Outside of work, I love keeping fit and, most of all, treasure time with my family of five (including my groodle, Charlie!).
My own pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood experiences have helped me to become even better at my role in caring for people across the journey from pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, childbirth, childhood and beyond.
It is an absolute privilege to be working in this area. I believe empowerment is vital in obstetrics and gynaecological care, and it through education, evidence-based discussions and individualised care, that we can achieve the best outcome for you.
